As pointed out by several publications, as of yesterday Apple -- the world's most valuable technology company -- has more cash and marketable securities on hand than the federal government does, according to the U.S. Treasury's own daily statement. Motorola as part of its results talks painted more modest picture for its tablet hopes in the second half of the year. It now anticipated that its entire tablet shipments for 2011 would range between 1.3 million and 1.5 million. The split left Motorola shipping as many tablets in the second half of the year as in the first half, even with at least two new tablets shipping....
Target is poised to drop prices on iPhones in what could be a sign of clearing stock ahead of a new model. Separate scoops have both shown the retailer dropping prices by at least $30 on iPhones depending on the carrier. Verizon iPhones will get the steepest drops, which in Phone Arena's leak saw prices going down to $150 and $250 for the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4 models respectively. AT&T devices would unusually cost $10 more, Engadget saw, although the iPhone 3GS at $20 would be one of the cheapest stable prices for an iPhone to date....






An anti-advertising group called Public Ad Campaign is developing an augmented-reality app for iOS devices that, when finished, should replace billboard and poster ads with artwork or advertising parodies in the iDevice's viewfinder, PC World reports. For example, pointing an iPhone at a billboard for the new movie Cowboys and Aliens would replace the sign with a Marlboro ad parody....
